Campbell helps Fund Sci-Port theater upgrade to promote energy efficiency

by BIZ Magazine

The Sci-Port Discovery Center is completing a million-dollar makeover of its IMAX theater with new lighting and sound equipment.  The upgrades will not only provide a better entertainment experience for the public but help demonstrate new technology that reduces energy consumption, according to Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell.

“I was pleased to contribute $200,000 from my Energy Efficiency fund toward this Sci-Port project,” Campbell said.  “It is helpful for this Shreveport institution that celebrates the key role of science in our world to demonstrate the science of energy conservation to the thousands of children and adults who visit Sci-Port each year.”

To mark the upgrades Sci-Port is renaming the theater the Goodman IMAX Dome, honoring donor Sylvia Goodman and her family.  Campbell said Sylvia Goodman has played a critical role in raising funds for Sci-Port.

According to Sci-Port, the Goodman IMAX Dome will be the only IMAX Dome in Louisiana and the only domed theatre within a 200-mile radius.  With a new digital projection system, Sci-Port will offer more movie options, including feature-length Hollywood productions.

Through his LPSC Energy Efficiency program for local governments, Campbell has donated more than $12 million to North Louisiana political subdivisions for energy-efficiency improvements since 2018.  The funds have paid for LED light fixtures, insulation and other upgrades to courthouses, schools, gymnasiums and other public facilities throughout Campbell’s 24-parish LPSC District 5.
