LSBDC to host Tax Update Webinars with LDR and IRS Nov. 16-17

Day one’s Tax Update Seminar with the LDR will cover changes for 2022 for Individual Income tax; Corporation Income & Franchise tax; Sales tax, and Severance & Excise taxes; and changes from the 2022 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature.

Day one guest speaker is Michelle Galland. She is the Revenue Tax Assistant Director over the Income/Franchise tax section in the Policy Services Division at LDR. Michelle has been with LDR for over 24 years. She serves as a subject matter expert for income tax and tax credits in the department.

The Policy Services Division is responsible for providing support and services to executive management, in-house divisions, government agencies, and the public. Division functions include development and issuance of department policies, legislative monitoring, fiscal note preparation, rule promulgation, tax research, and technical support. The Division also coordinates the implementation of tax laws, which includes developing and revising all forms as needed, preparing the Tax Exemption Budget (TEB) and Annual Report, and producing reports for the various taxes for internal and external stakeholders and for the proper allocations of dedicated taxes.

Day two’s Tax Updates with the IRS will provide an overview of the following topics of interest to Tax Professionals: 2022 Identity Protection PIN Opt-In Program; Tax Professional Data Theft and Protection ; and CAF – Third Party Authorization – e-signatures – Form 2848 and 8821.

Day two guest speaker is Aaron H. Steele, Sr. Senior Tax Specialist (New Orleans, LA)/Senior Stakeholder Liaison/Communication Stakeholder Outreach for the Internal Revenue Service. He began his career with the IRS in 1991. Aaron has held numerous positions such as Revenue Agent, Reviewer and Earn Income Tax Credit Coordinator to name a few.

In 2005, Aaron transitioned into the position of Senior Stakeholder Liaison in Communication Stakeholder Outreach. Aaron currently participates in the Louisiana and the Mississippi Practitioner Liaison Meetings, which are held semi-annually. The Practitioner Liaison Meetings provide an opportunity for practitioners to voice their concern with the Tax Administration System and for IRS Executives to inform practitioners of changes within the IRS.
