LSU has formally started the process for finding the next chancellor of its medical school in Shreveport.
The replacement is for Dr. Ghali E Ghali, who resigned in June 2021 after being put on administrative leave for about two months, The Advocate reported. His suspension followed claims from physicians and staffers at LSU Health Shreveportl that he had retaliated against them for raising sexual misconduct allegations against top administrators.
LSU President William Tate announced in an email to faculty and staff that LSU had formed a 22-person search committee, made up of professors at LSU Shreveport and medical community members, tasked with finding the next chancellor.
“This critically important process requires a compelling vision for the future of LSU Health Shreveport and the Shreveport-Bossier area,” Tate said in the email. “And while we are looking forward to securing a permanent leader, it is imperative that we take the time required to find the right individual to lead our campus and serve as a community pillar.”

The search for a new chancellor can take up to 18 months, Tate said at the LSU Board of Supervisors meeting Friday.
