LSU Shreveport officially launched its new website this week after an extensive migration process involving reassessing the university’s online presence from the ground up. The new website prioritizes user experience while serving as a key recruiting tool equipped with mobile optimization and more.
Director of Digital Media and Website Management, Erin Smith, joined the LSUS staff in April 2021 with the task of overseeing the transition to the new site. Smith hit the ground running on her first day, with the goal of rolling out a high-quality, innovative web presence for the university. Philosophically, the website is tailored to Generation Z, who studies have shown to be more outcome-focused, i.e. more interested in what a degree can do for them than previous generations. Many universities have re-tooled their online offerings to match this need, using career outcomes as a starting point and drawing a through-line back to academic programs.
“This project has been a labor of love,” said Smith. “The LSUS website update has been in the works for quite some time, and as both an employee and alum, I’m proud to see it cross the finish line!”
The new site is mobile adaptive, has an increased SEO presence, and is more ADA-friendly. Smith and the LSUS team will be working to continually add new features and capabilities to the site. Based on data from multiple sources, the team opted to create a site that is more recruitment-focused, highlighting educational programs over schools or departments within the university. “We really wanted the site to be an attractor for students that made it easy to find relevant information and make an informed-decision about the higher education institution they’re choosing.”
