Shreveport Farmers’ Market to kick off SNAP benefits program Saturday

The Original Shreveport Farmers’ Market opens for the 35th consecutive season on Saturday, June 5, 2021. The market provides an outlet for local farmers, ranchers, and artisans to sell their produce and goods and serves the entire Northwest Louisiana region by providing bountiful, fun-filled weekly markets during the summer season.

In conjunction with opening day, the Shreveport Farmers’ Market is formally announcing their partnership with Louisiana Healthcare Connections. Shoppers with a Louisiana Purchase (SNAP) card can receive a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $20 in purchases.

SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, offers nutrition assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and families. SNAP participants receive benefits on an EBT card which is then used to purchase eligible food items at SNAP-participating retailers. Through this partnership, area SNAP recipients are able to gain access to fresh, nutritious, local produce at the Shreveport Farmers’ Market in a safe, open-air environment while boosting the local economy by shopping with local farmers, ranchers, and artisans.
