Tech partners with Barnes & Noble College on new course material delivery model

by BIZ Magazine

Model designed to drive student outcomes through equitable access, convenience and affordability

Louisiana Tech University announced today its partnership with Barnes & Noble College to implement BNC First Day® Complete, a course material delivery model that will drive student success by ensuring all students are prepared to begin learning on the first day of class.First Day Complete will be branded as Bulldog Bundle on the Louisiana Tech campus. The innovative course material delivery model addresses equitable access, convenience, and affordability across all courses at an institution by bundling the cost of course materials ($25 per credit hour) and ensuring students have all of their materials for the quarter on or before the first day of class.

In addition, First Day Complete fully supports academic freedom and faculty choice. Faculty members can choose the materials that are best suited for their teaching, regardless of publisher or format.“We know that book cost is one of the heaviest burdens for our students,” said Dr. Dickie Crawford, Associate Vice President for Student Advancement at Louisiana Tech.

“Students can be forced to begin the quarter without the proper books and learning materials because of the cost of textbooks. Our Bulldog Bundle program will create greater opportunities for Louisiana Tech students to begin each quarter with all the materials necessary for success in the classroom.

”Louisiana Tech University will implement its Bulldog Bundle program for the Fall 2021 Quarter. After students have registered for their courses, they will receive an email from the Bookstore prompting them to select their preferred delivery method. The Bookstore will prepare the materials for each student, and notify them when the materials have shipped or are available for in-store pickup. Digital materials will be delivered directly through students’ learning management system.“We are pleased to partner with Louisiana Tech University to drive success and affordability through this new course material delivery model,” said Jonathan Shar, EVP, Retail and Client Solutions, Barnes & Noble Education.

“With First Day Complete, students are prepared for class starting on day one, ensuring there are no gaps in learning. In addition to its positive impact on student success, First Day Complete also a more affordable and convenient way for students to obtain their course materials. We know First Day Complete will greatly benefit this campus community, and we are very excited to partner with Louisiana Tech on this program.”
