Shreveport Farmers’ Market opens June 5

by BIZ Magazine

Red River Revel, Inc. is proud to announce that The Original Shreveport Farmers’ Market opens Saturday, June 5thth! For the 35th consecutive year, the Shreveport Farmers’ Market will serve our community by providing bountiful weekly markets! The market will be open every Saturday through August 29th (except June 19) from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Festival Plaza, located at 101 Crockett Street in downtown Shreveport.

The Shreveport Farmers’ Market has everything you need on your grocery list! The east side of Festival Plaza features fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants, honey, and meats grown/raised within a 150-mile radius of Shreveport. Ranchers sell ethically-raised beef, pork, chicken, and lamb. Great breads, jams, jellies, pickles, cheeses, shrimp, various canned goods, seasonings, sauces, and prepackaged meals are also available. And chocolates, cookies, cakes, candies, and pralines will make any sweet tooth happy! In addition to the variety of foods, we have local artisans that have handcrafted items such as art, jewelry, crafts, candles, soaps and dog treats. Prepared breakfast and lunch meals will be available, so bring your appetite!

There is no need to be intimidated by parking downtown. Free parking is available and ample around Festival Plaza! There are several adjacent lots to Festival Plaza, along with the meter parking on the street, all of which are free of charge.  There will an ATM onsite and some vendors accept credit/debit cards. The market also accepts Louisiana Purchase (SNAP) transactions to spend with participating vendors, and some farmers accept Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Food Coupons available through parish Councils on Aging.

This essential service has been facilitated by the Red River Revel office for over 20 years and we are taking every precaution to maintain our high standards of safety and cleanliness! To ensure the safety of patrons at the Shreveport Farmers’ Market, the market will be operating as an open-air, walk-up farmers market with additional safety precautions. Patrons should observe social distancing guidelines and signage; and refrain from touching any items displayed for sale as the vendors will serve guests one at a time and bag their selected items. Face masks are encouraged but not required.
