After taking a hard hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, Shreveport small business owners got another punch in the gut when Winter Storm Uri rolled through town. In a move to help support each other, a group of local small business owners created a plan to encourage Shreveport’s citizens to get out and shop local – the Support Shreveport Passport!
Like many ideas these days, the Support Shreveport Passport initiative was born on social media. Shreveport super-supporter Amy Quinn implored local residents to plan to support local businesses by shopping at local stores, ordering take-out dining, and using curbside pickup once the weather subsides. She called on her friends and area business owners to develop a plan to help give our local businesses a much needed boost during these difficult times. Great Raft picked up the baton and ran with it, inviting 30 small business owners to sign on for a local shopping initiative from now until March 7
“Amy and her husband Bill McGill are the biggest supporters of local business,” said Lindsay Nations, co-founder and Vice President of Great Raft Brewing. “They are the first to buy tickets to events, to support local artists, and to leave a big tip for waitstaff. They love Shreveport and the businesses that make our area special, and we wanted to help make it easy for people to get out and push some money into the local economy.”
From now until March 7, the Support Shreveport Passport will be available at participating local businesses and to download from greatraftbrewing.com/passport. Shoppers will receive a stamp from each business where they make a purchase through the end of the week. Each stamp on the passport will earn shoppers one entry into a drawing for one of the following prize packages:
- A gift certificate from each participating business
- A 2-night stay at Fairfield Place Bed & Breakfast (provided by John Cariere)
- A year’s supply of coffee from Rhino Coffee (one bag per month, delivered), or
- A “Shreveport Staycation” package sponsored by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau featuring a 1-night stay at Sam’s Town, 2 tickets to the Shreveport Aquarium, and a restaurant gift card.
Completed passports should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59pm on March 7 to enter. Winners will be announced by Great Raft Brewing on March 9.
