Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office has suspended a top deputy after an investigation found that he engaged in inappropriate conversations including sexual slang and unprofessional comments, The Advocate reported Tuesday.
Pat Magee was suspended for 38 days — but must still report to work, with 38 days’ salary coming out of his pay, the newspaper was told.
Magee, who leads the Attorney General’s criminal division, will lose more than $20,500 of his $140,000 salary, according to a letter released to the newspaper detailing the punishment.
Magee must also take training courses to help him develop “emotional intelligence, professionalism in the workplace, conflict management and leadership skills,” according to the letter.
The letter did not give details on what Magee said. But investigators wrote in the letter “there were no allegations nor findings of any requests for sexual favors; inappropriate workplace touching; nor sexual overtures.”
The investigation began several weeks ago, after a complaint was filed against Magee, who is head of the office’s criminal division.
The newspaper reported that Landry’s office had repeatedly refused to describe the type of complaint until Tuesday, when The Advocate asked about Magee’s return to work.
Magee took over the division in 2018.
