Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins’ mask mandate is on hold, for now. During a Monday hearing, Caddo District Judge Craig Marcotte ruled in favor of businesses who filed a lawsuit in opposition to the mandate.
Marcotte, who granted a temporary restraining days after the mandate was placed into effect, granted a preliminary injunction to the mandate.
Perkins’ mandate required anyone entering an establishment to wear a mask or face covering. Businesses who violated the order would be subject to penalties, ranging from the revocation of a business’ ability to remain open to the elimination of some city services, including water.
Marcotte ruled that Perkins’ did not have the authority to require mask-wearing via executive order, making it unconstitutional.
