La. Tech named to world ranking for sustainable development

by BIZ Magazine

For the second year in a row, Louisiana Tech University is the only university in the State of Louisiana named to the Times Higher Education (THE) 2020 University Impact Rankings released April 22.

For the third consecutive year, Tech was also included on the TIE World University Rankings and the Wall Street Journal/TIE U.S. College Rankings.

The University Impact Rankings assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ranking uses indicators to provide comparisons across three broad areas – research, outreach, and stewardship – covered in the SDGs.

A total of 857 universities from 89 countries and regions on six continents participated in at least one SDG ranking, and 766 universities participated in the overall world ranking. Louisiana Tech was ranked in four areas:

  • Good Health and Wellbeing
  • Industry Innovations and Infrastructure
  • Quality Education
  • Partnership for the Goals

“Our dedication to providing students with an unparalleled educational experience is not just something we talk about at Louisiana Tech,” said Dr. Les Guice, Tech president. “It is evident through the impact our students and faculty make as they work to tackle the grand challenges of our time. Our continued inclusion in the THE rankings on a national and international level shows our commitment to research, outreach, and stewardship.”

In 2016, THE recognized Louisiana Tech as one of 20 universities in the world that will “challenge the elite universities” and become globally renowned by 2030. In the report, Tech was one of an emerging group of “challenger” universities that are quickly rising in the world rankings and “have an opportunity to become globally renowned in the next 10 to 20 years.”
