Bossier City company among those reporting layoffs
At least four companies in the oil and gas industry in Louisiana said workers were being laid off due to a decrease in demand because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 600 workers were already let go or were expected to be laid off in the coming months, The Acadiana Advocate reported citing notifications to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
Turner Industries said 350 workers at three pipe fabrication facilities in Port Allen would be let go unless the company could get a boost in customer orders.
About 180 employees with ASRC Energy Services Omega will be laid off starting in June because the company’s facility in New Iberia is closing.
Multiple large hydraulic fracturing customers decided to stop drilling, leading Cactus Wellhead LLC to release 25 employees. The oilfield services business in Bossier City had already begun laying off 42 workers, and about 30% of its North American workforce, earlier this month.
An undisclosed number of workers were expected to be laid off from Valaris, formerly known as Ensco Offshore Co. The employees from its Broussard office were being let go starting May 30 because of a drop off in drilling contracts.
