Initial unemployment claims on the rise

The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Mar. 7, 2020 rose to 1,698 from the previous week’s total of 1,509. For a comparison, during the week ending March 9, 2019, 1,584 initial claims were filed. 

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 1,686 from the previous week’s average of 1,713. 

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Mar. 7, 2020 decreased to 14,199 from the previous week’s total of 15,289. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 14,565 for the week ending March 9, 2019.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 14,796 from the previous week’s average of 15,009.
