The Tax and Estate Planning Council of Shreveport has created an annual scholarship at Centenary College. The new Tax and Estate Planning Council of Shreveport Annual Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student majoring in accounting or business or a student minoring in legal studies. The first scholarship will be awarded in the 2020-2021 academic year.
“The Tax and Estate Planning Council is made up of insurance professionals, attorneys, CPAs, and trust officers,” explains Anna Whittenbarger, a trust advisor at Regions Private Wealth Management and current president of the Council. “We knew we wanted to make an impact locally, and we thought helping a student interested in pursuing a profession in these areas made sense. Centenary is a perfect fit with its unique combination of liberal arts education and pre-professional training experience.”
Jena McKinzie, director of development at Centenary, is excited about the future impact of the new scholarship.
“Centenary is thankful to Anna Whittenbarger and the wonderful professionals who make up the Tax and Estate Planning Council of Shreveport for their generosity in establishing this new annual scholarship,” says McKinzie. “Their funding will provide financial support, but we are also excited to see the engagement and mentorship that this group will bring to our campus community. Annual scholarships like this are a wonderful way for local businesses and civic groups to provide support to the students who continue to call Shreveport home.”
