Chimp Haven, the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, offers opportunities this year for the public to visit during four Chimpanzee Discovery Days, and several upcoming unique events. Animal sanctuaries are rarely open to visitors, making a visit to Chimp Haven a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the 200-acre forested refuge home to more than 300 chimpanzees, most of whom are retired from medical research.
“Chimp Haven is truly unlike any place else. Our special events allow visitors a rare glimpse into the lives of the chimpanzees who are living the Chimp Life here in sanctuary,” said Chimp Haven President and CEO Rana Smith. “The chimpanzees climb, play and explore the forests which is an enriching experience for the chimpanzees and remarkable to witness for visitors of all ages.”
On March 14, visitors are invited to explore the sanctuary and witness the lush forested habitats the chimpanzees call home. Guests can also take a behind-the-scenes tour of this growing sanctuary and discover the rich natural wonders on the property. Staff members will be on-hand sharing their expertise and answering questions about the chimpanzees’ unique personalities, diets and individualized veterinary care.
The Chimpanzee Discovery Day on Saturday, March 14 is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Entrance fees are $10 for visitors 6 and older, and free for children 5 and younger. Guests can also purchase tickets for behind-the-scenes hayride tours, which are priced at $10 per ticket. Tickets and additional dates for Chimp Haven events are available online at chimphaven.org/visit/. Tickets for Chimpanzee Discovery Days are also available at the admissions gate the day of the event. To learn more about Chimp Haven, please visit chimphaven.org/.
