Top accounting students at LSU Shreveport received career advice from Shreveport-Bossier City accounting professionals at an inaugural networking event in October.
The Department of Accounting and Business Law in the College of Business organized the event for the top 15 accounting students. The students met with professionals from Carr, Riggs and Ingram CPAs and Advisors. The firm plans to hire at least three more accountants in the near future, said Hardy Foreman, a Carr, Riggs and Ingram accountant who networked with the students.
“I thought it was an extremely worthwhile event. We got to visit one on one with 15 of the brightest minds Northwest Louisiana has to offer,” Foreman said. “Carr, Riggs, and Ingram supports LSUS. They are doing an amazing job preparing their accounting students for the future.”
The Accounting and Business Law Department is working to strengthen ties with the Shreveport-Bossier business community. The department plans to hold this networking event every fall and spring so students can learn about job opportunities. This event provides an opportunity for our students to network with local accounting professionals, said Dr. Amy Oakes Wren, department chair.
“Bringing in local, regional, and national accounting firms benefits both students and accounting firms. The firms have the opportunity to meet our outstanding accounting students, and students are able to learn about and meet wonderful accountants, many of whom are LSUS alumni,” Wren said. “LSUS is committed to helping our graduating accountants find employment and to providing the accounting community with excellent employees.”
