A Special Bond Committee of the Committee of One Hundred, Inc. has reviewed information about the 2019 Bond Proposal from the Administration of the City of Shreveport.

A Special Bond Committee of the Committee of One Hundred, Inc. has reviewed information about the 2019 Bond Proposal from the Administration of the City of Shreveport.  Further information was requested and received by this Special Committee for additional review.  Based on their committee reviews and recommendations our Board of Directors has taken the following position on this Bond Proposal:

  1. The Committee of One Hundred, Inc. expresses appreciation to Mayor Adrian Perkins and his department heads for a recent briefing of the C of 100 representatives about details of the City of Shreveport November 2019 bond proposal with his staff present so we could ask questions.
  2. We also thank the Shreveport CAO for the comprehensive replies about the questions we had sent to the Mayor from our Committee of One Hundred special bond committee of members.
  3. Our leadership generally supports this bond proposal and think it will accomplish some needed capital projects that will benefit our citizens.
  4. We believe in the importance of the City maintaining a financial plan to address needs for operating and capital expenses in each of the next few years.
  5. We want to make certain that the requirements of the consent decree for sewer repairs are met in a timely manner via management by the City Administration.
  6. Our organization desires routine effective management of City funds via supervision and internal controls for efficient operations and implementation of capital projects.
  7. We would request routine reporting to the public on the use of the bond monies as well as reporting income, operating expenditures, and other capital projects as they are monitored.
  8. It is important to us for the City to be business-friendly, to enhance economic development for jobs, and to provide quality-of-life services for the public.

The Committee of One Hundred, Inc. is supporting a favorable vote for the propositions in the November 16, 2019 bond election for the City of Shreveport.  We agree with the City Administration’s rationale of investing tax payer dollars in the projects identified in the proposal.  The needs are apparent and have been clearly presented by the Administration.  The Mayor’s commitment to proper management and reporting is a key factor in our support for the bond issue.
