The American Advertising Federation of Shreveport Bossier recently held the American Advertising Federation’s District 10 professional development convention known as Advent10n.

The four-day convention – designed for marketing, advertising and media personnel – attracted professionals and students from across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Featuring both national keynotes and breakout sessions conducted by regional and local industry professionals, the event played host to more than 400 out-of-towners. Speakers from the likes of IBM, Avocados from Mexico, the Marcus Graham Project and Weinerschnitzel imparted knowledge upon participants on topics ranging from emotional intelligence and its importance in creativity to the celebration of diversity in all marketing initiatives.

Overall the convention went smoothly and was well-attended, but none of it would have been possible without the enthusiastic, caring folks of Shreveport Bossier. The convention was funded solely by sponsorships from local businesses and institutions. Volunteers from across the two cities honored their commitments and wowed the guests. As a result, attendees had a phenomenal time, spent money locally at various small businesses, attractions and restaurants and are still speaking highly of our cities on various social media platforms.

Organizers of Advent10n have heard repeatedly what an amazing job the volunteers did. They were kind, courteous, respectful and helpful. But most importantly, they showed up! Their mere presence and the sheer number of volunteers the event had amazed the attendees.

There’s no greater asset a society, city, company or organization can have than good people. Shreveport Bossier did that for Advent10n, and the board members of the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport Bossier are forever grateful. The volunteers made the event a huge success. They are the true MVPs.

So, to all of the people who donated of their time, money, talents and voice to make the convention a success, thank you.

“People are the greatest resource.” Dan Shechtman, Nobel Laureate.
