Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending Mar. 23

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Mar 23, 2019 dropped to 1,619 from the previous week’s total of 1,661. For a comparison, during the week ending Mar 24, 2018, 1,863 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 1,635 from the previous week’s average of 1,676.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Mar 23, 2019 decreased to 14,074 from the previous week’s total of 14,268. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 15,972 for the week ending Mar 24, 2018.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 14,611 from the previous week’s average of 14,921.
