BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE — Dr. Thomas Langdon, Force Support civilian career field manager, spoke to Department of Defense civilians about ways to improve their careers and promote.
The briefing provided valuable insight on civilian force development policies and processes regarding education and training. One topic that Langdon emphasized was refining resumes.
“If I have to look at another 20 page resume that says ‘I was a barista at Starbucks for 13 days’ I will not be held accountable,” Langdon said jokingly.
Another point Langdon highlighted was the promotion system in the DoD civilian career field. He stressed that if civilians wanted to promote, they had to pursue a higher education and be willing to relocate.
“We all have to do our piece if we are in this thing,” Langdon said. “I went overseas to jobs that they were having a hard time filling. From there I went to another job, and from there I went up to Air Staff. I went to those places understanding I needed to expand my horizons to be able to do the job I wanted to do.”
Throughout his speech, Langdon shared advice and knowledge to help other DoD civilians succeed and gain new opportunities.
