U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) officials are visiting Shreveport this week to finalize a $24.2 million grant for the city.
Beth Van Duyne, the Regional Administrator for the Southwest Region of HUD, will formerly announce the award of the Choice Neighborhood Implementation grant funds.
A press conference will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Millennium Studios, 300 Douglas St.
The City of Shreveport, the Housing Authority of Shreveport and other community partners were instrumental in securing the grant that Mayor Ollie Tyler announced earlier this month.
The grant award will provide Choice Implementation funds to spur revitalization efforts in Allendale, Ledbetter Heights, and the West Edge, creating neighborhoods of choice.
This community-based initiative will include housing and retail development expected to boost the economic value of the area near and around Millennium Studios.
“We are excited to have HUD officials join us this week to recognize the efforts of the City, the Housing Authority and many community partners in crafting a successful application,” said Mayor Tyler.
