The Independence Day travel week marks the middle of the summer travel season and passenger boardings are up at Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) by double digits over last year.

In the month of April, passenger boardings were up by 12 percent over 2017, with more than 48,000 passengers choosing to use SHV. May saw a big increase as well, as passenger numbers were up 11 percent over 2017, with more than 56,000 people choosing to fly through SHV.

“Summer is traditionally the busiest time here at the airport, and this summer is shaping up to be busier than usual. We are in the middle of a project to consolidate our two security checkpoints into a single location, which should speed up the already swift security screening process. We have also totally remodeled the lower-level restrooms near the baggage claim area to create a better customer experience. We’ve added LED lighting and Dyson Airblade Tap faucets, which are very energy efficient,” said Henry Thompson, Director of Airports.

Ultra-low cost carrier Allegiant has again launched non-stop service to Orlando Sanford International Airport through mid-August from Shreveport on Mondays and Fridays, with fares starting at $57 one-way. Allegiant continues to offer year-round non-stop service to Las Vegas, also on Mondays and Fridays. Through early August, the flight schedule to Las Vegas increases to add flights on Wednesdays, with fares starting at $85 one-way.

It’s been 11 months since American Airlines launched twice daily non-stop service to Charlotte, which has performed well since flights began. The two 50-seat flights each day are routinely sold out.

Delta Air Lines has increased the number of departures to seven flights per day to Atlanta. Delta is also offering special pricing on flights between Shreveport and Atlanta which start at $197 round trip.

United Airlines is flying larger aircraft into SHV, which features first class seating on their new Embraer E-175 aircraft. United is also offering new, lower fares to Houston, starting at $223 round trip.

Passengers flying American, Delta or United are reminded to arrive at the airport at least one hour before their scheduled flight departure. Passengers flying Allegiant should arrive at the airport two hours before their scheduled departure time.

For the months of June and July, the airlines have added 10,000 more seats in 2018 than in 2017 from Shreveport because of increased passenger demand. If residents continue to choose to fill these seats, the airlines will continue to fly larger planes with into the market. When there are more seats in a market, ticket prices become lower.
