RUSTON — Jessica George, director of student services and placement at Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business, has been named the Vantage Health Plan 2018 Visionary Educator of the Year.
The peer-nominated honor is awarded to outstanding faculty and staff members who have shown a strong commitment to the field of education through hard work and dedication to the field. Billy Justice, director of marketing and sales for Vantage Health Plan, presented George with the award at a special luncheon held in the Davison Athletic Complex.
“This is truly one of the most humbling experiences because I know the caliber of professors I have the honor to work alongside at Louisiana Tech,” said George. “In the College of Business, I am fortunate to help students navigate through some of the most instrumental and challenging decisions of their lives. I get to calm anxious nerves for interviews, high five over job offers, see students transform as they discover their life’s passion, and watch as hundreds of graduates launch their careers and go out into the world to make a difference of their own.”
George has served in her role in the College of Business since March 2015, where she counsels students on all aspects of career planning from identifying a career path to searching for full-time employment. George is the instructor of Career Preparation Seminar, and regularly hosts career readiness events including etiquette dinners, interviewing workshops, industry panels, and recruiting events bringing over 250 professionals to campus each year.
“We’re thrilled that Jessica’s efforts have been recognized by Vantage Health Plan and the entire Louisiana Tech community,” said Dr. Chris Martin, dean of the College of Business. “In the College of Business, we pride ourselves on our student-first environment. Jessica is a shining example of someone who does just that.”
A native of Emerson, Ark., George earned a bachelor of business administration and master of business administration from Southern Arkansas University.
