A committee of the American College of Surgeons has renewed University Health Shreveport’s, Level 1 Trauma status through July 2020. This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for the most seriously injured patients.

The ACS Committee on Trauma’s verification program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients. An on-site review of the hospital is conducted by a team of reviewers experienced in the field of trauma. Using the current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual as a guideline, this team determines if the criteria for the requested trauma level have been met. Reviews take place on a routine basis to ensure trauma centers are providing the proper services for their trauma level.

“We are pleased that the ACS Committee on Trauma recognized the hard work and dedication of our Trauma Team 1,” said University Health Shreveport President Mark Randolph. “The men and women who make up this team see very critical injuries and continually save lives that otherwise might not make it if they had to be sent to Dallas, Little Rock or Jackson.”

Trauma Team 1, which consists of talented LSU Health Shreveport surgeons and dedicated members of the University Health team, staff the trauma center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in Louisiana and the only one in the state that treats adult, pediatric and burn patients.
