Shreveport’s Sun Furniture closing after 68 years

Sun Furniture, a furniture retailer in Shreveport, is closing after 68 years due to the owner’s retirement.

A going-out-of-business sale at the store, located at 1253 Texas Ave., will begin Thursday, Jan. 18.

Sun Furniture was founded in 1950 by H. Leo Greengus just one block from the store’s current 20,000-square-foot location. The company has been family-owned and operated for its entire history and is currently led by Randy Greengus, son of H. Leo and Shirley Greengus. Many of the store’s customers are second- and third-generation family members who continue to shop at Sun Furniture today.

Sun Furniture’s spacious showroom is filled with a wide variety of home furnishings. By keeping its overhead low, the store is able offer very low prices and quick delivery.

“We’re not fancy on the outside — that’s why we save you money on the inside,” said Randy Greengus. “Our location is easy to find, just seconds from I-20 and I-49 on Texas Avenue.”

Over the years, Sun Furniture has become northwestern Louisiana’s destination for stylish, quality furnishings at an exceptional value, said Greengus.

“This sale event offers customers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy brand name furniture at going-out-of-business prices. We look forward to seeing many old friends during the sale.”

Everything in the store will be sold before the closing. A huge selection of product will be available during the sale, with discounts varying depending on the category. Products are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We suggest shoppers come in early for the best selection,” Greengus said.
