This fall, Highland Clinic proudly launched the M.D.U Health Education Program as part of a 100-year celebration.

The program is an exclusive opportunity for Caddo and Bossier Parish upper class students who have expressed an interest in the field of medicine.

This inaugural year of the program is being led by Caddo Magnet High School and Captain Shreve High School with about 50 participating students. Approximately 25 Caddo Magnet juniors and students have come through the Day with the Doc and more In-School Sessions are scheduled for the remainder of the year. Another 24 Captain Shreve students have come through the In-school Sessions, with two shadow days scheduled before the end of the year.

The In-School Sessions involve select physicians, representing the multi-specialty clinic, who attend the school to make a 50-minute presentation and hold Q&A with the students. The participating students are enrolled in STEM, magnet and/or gifted science course curriculum, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The student group then has the opportunity to spend a Day with the Doc, where they are able to shadow the physician and staff in their day-to-day operations.

The M.D.U upcoming schedule is as follows: Captain Shreve High School: 11/28 and 12/12 Day with the Doc, where they will be sending 10 students per day through the program; Caddo Magnet High School: 12/5 Day with the Doc and 12/7 In-school Session.

The Highland Clinic Physicians and Physician Assistants dedicating their time to the program include: Dr. Edward Anglin – Orthopaedics / Sports Medicine, Dr. James Barnes – Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Clay Bundrick – Ophthalmology, Amy Coburn, D.O. – Pediatric Ophthalmology, Dr. Holly Guy – Ophthalmology, Dr. Leigh Henderson – Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Dr. Carlton Houtz – Orthopaedics/Sports Medicine, Dr. Chuka Ifeanyi – Ear, Nose & Throat, Dr. J.
