Waitr, the on-demand restaurant platform, is delivering over 2,000 free hot meals to needy families across the Gulf States this week.
The delivery of the meals is the culmination of a five-week program during which Waitr’s customers donated thousands of dollars to Waitr’s “Share Thanksgiving” initiative via the food delivery app.
Using these donations, Waitr is delivering meals prepared by local restaurants to hungry families during the days leading up to Thanksgiving. In addition to delivering the food, Waitr and its 3,800 employees matched a portion of the donation.
Share Thanksgiving was the concept of Waitr CEO Chris Meaux, who was looking for a unique way to help families in need this holiday season. It allowed anyone ordering from their favorite restaurant using Waitr the option to make a donation that will directly help feed a family in their own community.
Meaux said the program was a huge success, as over 1,200 Waitr customers donated to the cause.
“We couldn’t be happier with the result. We are so grateful for the generosity of our loyal customers and our restaurant partners,” Meaux said. “There are so many people who unfortunately struggle to put food on their tables every day. To help out this holiday season is just very gratifying for all of us at Waitr.”
Share Thanksgiving benefited families across the entire Southeast, as Waitr has more than 3000 restaurant partners and a presence in more than 100 cities.
Launched in 2015, Waitr is an on-demand restaurant platform designed to connect local restaurants to hungry consumers. Founded in Lake Charles, Waitr’s mission is to develop the local food culture for communities across the United States by expanding the reach of local restaurant menus.
