BPCC Open Campus wins innovation award

by BIZ. Staff

BPCC Open CampusTM has earned the 2018 OLC Digital Learning Innovation Award – in the “Faculty-led Team” category (DLIAward), for advancing undergraduate student success through the adoption of digital courseware. BPCC Open CampusTM was one of three institutions and ten faculty-led teams selected from among 64 submissions in year three of the Online Learning Consortium’s (OLC) DLIAward competition.

BPCC was awarded the $10,000 prize for its Open Campus™ Open Educational Resources designed to engage students through a gamified, mobile learning app and desktop learning platform. The project was originally funded in 2015, through a U.S. Department of Education grant to create online math and English placement testing prep and on-demand study aids for students entering college. To date, BPCC’s Open Campus™ learning resources have helped over 50,000 Louisiana students prepare for college testing and helped them be successful in transitioning into College. Anyone can log in and use BPCC’s Open Campus™ study materials; users have already accessed the learning content, worldwide, in 208 countries and territories.

Allison Martin, who spearheaded the project, commented, “BPCC’s faculty and staff rank among the nation’s top thought-leaders in education, and we are delighted to see their efforts get recognized by the Online Learning Consortium. Together, our faculty and staff identified students’ needs and, together, they worked to create a successful solution.”

Any student or parent can access BPCC’s Open Campus™ free app or desktop version to prepare for high-stakes ACT testing or as extra study for math and English. It’s available through the College website or at bpccopencampus.com. It’s completely free and easy to use.

“The mission of the OLC DLI Awards is to discover student-centered active learning solutions that advance the world of digital learning for all students,” said Kathleen Ives, D.M., CEO and executive director of the Online Learning Consortium. “The awarded projects in this year’s competition truly support this mission and serve as valuable models that other institutions can emulate as they embark on their own digital courseware initiatives.”

The 2018 DLIAwards were presented to honorees on Nov. 13, during a special awards dinner at the OLC Accelerate conference, in Orlando.

Awards were determined by two rounds of review, first by a review team of institutional-level and higher education organization-level reviewers, who narrowed the field of submissions for final review by a national panel of judges.
